Jo Cox

Batley and Spen MP Jo Cox was murdered on Thursday June 16 in Birstall market place. The Labour MP and mum-of-two became a prominent member of parliament since her election in May 2015. Since her election to her home town constituency she made sure she was at the centre of the community in her Batley and Spen, as well as campaigning on women's issues, the plight of Syrian refugees and for the remain campaign in the EU referendum. Prime Minister David Cameron said after her death: "We've lost a great star." Thomas Mair was jailed for life for her murder in November 2016. Tracey Brabin was elected to Jo's Batley and Spen seat in September 2016.
