Meltham is a small town situated below Wessenden Moor, four-and-a-half miles south west from the town centre of Huddersfield. On the edge of the Peak District National Park, Meltham was estimated in 2005 to have a population of 8,600. Meltham is within close reach of several major cities, including Bradford, Leeds and Sheffield. The valley has been inhabited since pre-historic times, with two Iron Age sites overlooking the town.
