Huddersfield-born lifelong Town supporter and a former Greenhead College student, he studied history and politics at Leeds University before joining the Keighley News in 1987. Initially a news reporter, Doug switched to sport in 1988, covering Keighley Rugby League Club. Joined the Examiner in 1989, reporting on cricket and covering the original Emley FC's rise in non-league football. Spent two years at the Press Association sports department in the mid-nineties before returning to the Examiner. He has been football writer since 2006.

Roy Wright was appointed editor of The Huddersfield Daily Examiner in 2002. Prior to this he was assistant editor of The Liverpool Echo for three years. He has also worked at the Hull Daily Mail as well as a number of Press agencies.
Roy grew up in Burnley, Lancashire and has worked in the local newspaper industry for 25 years.
