KIRKLEES College students will get aboard the “Star Shop Enterprise” as part of a national Colleges Week celebration.
A shop selling arts and crafts, greetings cards, plants and herbs – made and grown by the students – will be open to the public during Colleges Week, which got under way today. Profits from the shop’s coffee and cakes will go to Children in Need.
The shop, which will run at the college’s Dewsbury centre, Halifax Road, Dewsbury, aims to help students prepare for life after college and get them ready for employment.
Colleges Week celebrates the role colleges play in unlocking talent in communities and transforming the lives of learners.
Chris Sadler, principal of Kirklees College – the new name for the merged Huddersfield Technical College and Dewsbury College – said: “We’re proud to be part of Colleges Week and think this week-long celebration can play a key role in demonstrating the valuable role colleges play.
“Kirklees College continues to go from strength to strength with a record number of enrolment and pass rates.
“We hope people around the community will be inspired to find out how colleges can unlock the talent within them.”
Open days will be held tomorrow at the Dewsbury Centre and on Wednesday at the Huddersfield Centre, New North Road.
