Peter's store in BBC show

CAMERAS have gone behind the scenes at a Huddersfield town centre department store.

Now life at Peter’s will feature in the second instalment of a BBC4 documentary The Department Store, to be screened at 9pm next Monday.

Producer Richard Macer and his camera crew followed store manager David and his wife and store buyer Caroline Whittle over six months as they tackled day-to-day issues at the store, including meetings with suppliers and shopfitters.

They also accompanied Caroline on buying trips to Europe and interviewed shoppers about their views and memories of the long-established King Street store.

The hour-long documentary follows David and Caroline as they set about revitalising the store following its rescue from administration in February, 2006.

It examines how an independent retailer attempts to compete against major chains and the importance of such a store to the town centre.
