MINING business UK Coal said it was cautiously optimistic for next year after better-than-expected performances at two of its biggest collieries.
The Doncaster-based group said deep mines output was up by more than 40% on a year ago at 1.7m tonnes in the third quarter – helped by contributions from Daw Mill, near Coventry, and Thoresby, Nottinghamshire.
Output at Kellingley in Yorkshire remained flat, although UK Coal said it was working on improved conditions.
