BITC hosts Business Unusual conference

SENIOR business leaders across Yorkshire will attend a cutting edge conference to focus on creating a low carbon future.

Business in the Community is staging Business Unusual on Friday at Leeds University – to highlight how “business as usual” will no longer apply in a world of rising population levels, dwindling resources and climate-related challenges.

A spokesman for BITC said: “The challenge is huge. Careful planning and the transformation of business methods, supply chains and working practices will be essential if we are to meet our legislated 80% carbon reduction cuts by 2050.”

But he added: “The transition to a low carbon economy offers the greatest opportunities ever known to construct healthy, sustainable, affordable lives and communities, led and supported by business and organisations.”

Speakers at the conference, sponsored by ASDA, will include Tony Greenham, head of finance and business at the New Economics Foundation and John Drummond, of Corporate Culture.
