ACCOUNTANCY firm director Carolyn Atkinson knows all about cold hard cash.
Now she has completed the gruelling Great Salford Swim, a challenging one-mile swim staged at Manchester’s Salford Quays.
Carolyn, director at accountancy firm Sheards, based at New North Road in Huddersfield, endured extremely cold water temperatures to finish in just over 46 minutes and raise more than £400 for Diabetes UK.
She said: “My legs and feet were so numb I had to crawl out of the water as I could not stand!
“I shook uncontrollably for about half an hour and had to be half carried to a heated tent to get warmed through – but it was worth it!”
Two thousand swimmers took part in the event and Carolyn came 66th in her age group and 1103rd overall.
A spokesman for the firm added: “The enormity of the challenge cannot be underestimated and all at Sheards are very proud of her efforts.”
