FMG Support wins contract with Lancashire Constabulary

A COMPANY in Huddersfield has secured a trans-Pennine success – with Lancashire’s boys and girls in blue.

Independent vehicle incident management and roadside assistance firm FMG Support has won a major contract with Lancashire Constabulary.

The contract was awarded to FMG Support following a comprehensive tender process.

The deal, which will run for two years with an option of a two-year extension, covers Lancashire as well as Cumbria, Norfolk and North Wales.

It means FMG Support will be responsible for managing the recovery of all vehicles under the Lancashire Constabulary’s statutory power.

That includes vehicles that have been abandoned, stolen or involved in crime, as well as police vehicles. Lancashire Constabulary handles more than 30,000 vehicles a year.

FMG Support has more than 20 years experience working for a number of public and private sector organisations.

It recently extended its contract with the Highways Agency, where it is responsible for recovering vehicles from more than 5,000 miles of motorways and major roads across England.

The company is experienced in vehicle recovery and in dealing with specific police processes – from preserving crime scenes to specialist storage arrangements and disposal procedures.

It also has a dedicated police control room, which was created with guidance and advice from a retired senior police officer – which meant that FMG Support could demonstrate that it had the capability to manage the contract.

Phil Cottam, inspector for motorway and roads with Lancashire Constabulary, said: “FMG Support has a dedicated police network of vehicle recovery partners as well as the flexibility to develop tailored services around the specific pressures and priorities that we face.

“This coupled with FMG Support’s focus on quality of service and its customer focused approach, were crucial to them securing the contract.

“The processes and procedures that FMG Support will implement will have a significant impact on our operations and will enable us to increase our efficiencies and improve our overall performance. We look forward to a successful working partnership.”

John Catling, managing director for roadside recovery at FMG Support, said: “We have worked very closely with Lancashire Constabulary throughout the tender process to fully understand its operation and we are delighted to have secured the contract.

“We have the ability to create real viable bottom line benefits, by reducing costs, mitigating risk and freeing up resources to enable them to focus on their key priorities.

“We look forward to working closely with Lancashire Constabulary to increase efficiencies and enhance its operational performance.

“As ever, we remain committed to constantly improving and raising the standards of the recovery industry overall.”
