Chem Resist adds farmers to customer list

A KIRKLEES company making specialist storage tanks is reaping rewards in the farming sector.
Ravensthorpe-based Chem Resist Ltd, which designs and builds thermoplastic chemical storage tanks, is supplying containers to farms for use as fertiliser mixing tanks.
Chem Resist has developed the product in co-operation with local farmers.
The thermoplastic mixing tank avoid corrosion issues associated with more traditional mild steel mixing vessels.
Technical manager Dr Stephan Menzer said the tank design reflects many years experience in the field.
“Agricultural fertilisers such as iron sulphate, urea and ammonium nitrate will corrode any mild steel equipment. – of particular concern for horticultural farmers, as buyers from leading supermarkets don’t like “rusty” fertiliser being sprayed onto “their” fruits and produce.” Chem Resist’s tanks routinely spend 20-plus years on industrial sites containing highly corrosive chemicals, including sodium hypochlorite and concentrated sulphuric acid without any leakage or breakdown.
The Chem Resist fertilizer mixing vessel is fitted with a sturdy self priming pump and a spurge pipe to mix the tank content water and solid fertiliser.
The Chem Resist team can even advise on “recipes” to use.
Other features include the fact the tank is rectangular rather than circular – making it easier to deliver the fertiliser right to the side of the tank and reduce spillage.
There is also a safety net to protect the operator from falling into the tank.
One happy customer has also discovered that he can clean out the Chem Resist tank and use it as a swimming pool in summer!
