Footsie slips back

THE FTSE 100 Index slipped back under the 6,000 mark as the so-called Santa rally ran out of steam.
Investors cheered when the Footise broke through the 6,000 barrier on Christmas Eve for the first time since June, 2008 – but shareholders returned from the four-day festive holiday in a less buoyant mood, with the FTSE 100 retreating 12.6 points to 5996.3 yesterday.
The index is still 8.5% up this month, putting it on track for its best ever December performance since 1987.
