HUDDERSFIELD University is putting staff development at the forefront of plans to create “an inspiring, innovative university of international renown”.

The university, which has 25,000 students and 2,000 staff ensures that learning and development supports all aspects of the university’s strategy.

That includes regular tests of employee attitudes and satisfaction and an annual appraisal covering all employees to help identify individual training and development needs.

The university offers 330 training programmes to staff and has held the Investors in People award for the whole of the organisation since 1999.

Martin Plant, from the university’s staff development team, said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have won. It is for the team that I work with and for the people who have contributed to staff development at the university.

“It’s a great way of recognising that hard work they’ve put in and I’m really proud of all the effort we made.’’

Also nominated in the category, sponsored by Prohms Ltd, were Britannia Rescue and Hinchliffe’s.
