RICS reports rise in rents for residential market

INCREASED tenant demand and low levels of rental property coming onto the Yorkshire market pushed rents higher in the three months to April, according to a report.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors’ latest Residential Lettings Survey showed that overall 41% more surveyors reported a rise in rents rather than a fall in the three months to April.

That compares with 35% more during the previous quarter and mirrors national trends.

Surveyors said many people had little choice but to rent – as home ownership in the region remained out of reach for many would-be buyers due to lack of mortgage finance..
