Former Tory education boss: I listened to parents on school closure
A FORMER schools boss has moved to defend his record.
Clr Jim Dodds was in charge of education at Kirklees Council until his Conservative party was ousted in January.
Labour and the Lib Dems removed the Tories because they were unhappy with their proposals to spend £200m of Government money on schools in Mirfield, Dewsbury, Batley and the Spen Valley.
The new coalition have just unveiled their plans – which include closing Castle Hall School in Mirfield.
Clr Dodds had also proposed shutting the school last year – but changed his mind after seeing the depth of opposition from parents to the closure.
He said a second proposal, which he announced in January, was better than the new Labour and Lib Dem plan.
Clr Dodds said: "There is a great difference between these new plans and our revised proposals which we made public in January following consultation with parents, teachers and governors. Our revised proposals took on board many of the issues flagged up in consultation."
