It’s Our World: Green festival to be staged at Nelson Mandela Corner in Huddersfield
A FESTIVAL dedicated to all things green will be hosted in Huddersfield over three days.
Highlights at the Green Fest will include a day-long conference, art exhibitions, a recycled fashion show and interactive workshops.
While stalls selling eco-friendly and Fairtrade products will be set up at Nelson Mandela Corner, behind Huddersfield library.
Huddersfield University marketing and communications students Chris Johns and Petra Baresova organised the festival following on from the success of Huddersfield University’s Green Day event last year.
Chris, 21, said: “Last year’s Green Day was such a successful event on campus that we wanted to build on it and bring it out into the town centre so that everyone could be involved.
“I think the Green Fest will be important for the town and it will give people the opportunity to see how they can be greener and learn more about the effects they can make on their environment.
“I’ll also be learning a lot about being eco-friendly over the course of the festival – before last year’s Green Day event being green wasn’t necessarily something that was a huge part of my life but I learnt a lot from the last event.
“We’re going to have some important speakers at a public conference at the university on one of the days – including a representative from Yorkshire Tea who is going to come and talk about their work with the Rainforest Alliance.
“We’re also going to have some really fun events on. There will be entertainers performing in the stall area as well as a green arts and photo competition – we’re currently organising a children’s conference too.”
The three-day festival will be held across town from March 29 to 31 from 10am to 4pm every day.
Chris and Petra are inviting anyone who wants to be involved to get in touch.
He said: “We want to provide support to people who are doing their bit by giving them a platform from which to promote their activities and educate more people.”
