A PIONEERING eco-construction course is set to create new opportunities for people in Kirklees.

Green Future Building Ltd, a not-for-profit social enterprise based in Heckmondwike, has joined together with Kirklees ‘build’, Kirklees Green Business Network and Leeds College of Building to run the new construction training course.

It is being funded by the European Social Fund – Skills for Climate Change Programme.

The course is for Kirklees residents aged 16-60 who are out of work.

Eco-construction focuses on skills linked to a ‘Low Carbon Living and Working Programme’ and this course will offer City and Guilds accreditation.

Trainees will attend for two days a week for up to 12 weeks and complete core modules in joinery-based activities, as well as new eco-modules being developed specifically for the course in pontoon and SSIPs panel manufacture.

A recruitment event is being held from 10am to noon tomorrow, at the Woodlands Conference Centre, Smithies Lane, Heckmondwike.
