Nathan Brown column: Win over Rovers shows we’re now back on track
Jun 11 2009 by Chris Roberts, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
After the win over Hull KR, do you feel you’re getting back to your best form?
Yes, we’re doing some good stuff.
The past month has been pretty good for us, because we’ve beaten some reasonable teams in that time in Wakefield, Castleford and Hull KR.
To beat a team like Hull KR who are in some good form and are second in the Super League table clearly shows there’s been some improvement in us.
And one of the reasons we did get back to some of our best form against Hull KR was because everyone contributed.
Our right-side defence, in particular, stood out for me. They (Hull KR) put a lot of pressure on Aspinwall, Lawrence, Robinson, Wild and Raleigh and challenged them significantly throughout the game, but the final result (22-6) shows what a good job they all did.
I’d also like to again single out our young kids, Bruno (Lawrence) and Leroy (Cudjoe), for slotting back in and doing such a great job.
Unfortunately, the injury to Danny Kirmond took a bit of gloss off the win, didn’t it?
It was disappointing, there’s no doubt about it.
Danny’s been one of our most consistent players this year and is a big threat when he carries the ball. His defence is also becoming stronger.
So the possibility of losing him for up to 12 weeks is a blow, although it is part and parcel of our game.
I’m sure Danny will benefit from having a bit of a break, because he’s not missed many games this year, but hopefully that break will be for six weeks and not the full 12.
At the moment we’re just having to wait and see.
You also lost David Faiumu with a groin strain last Friday. How’s he responded to treatment, and how are your other injured players coming along?
At this stage, Fuey is doubtful for Sunday, although we’ll give him a bit more time before making a final decision.
But he shouldn’t be out for a long time, and if he misses against Leeds he should be back for the home game against Castleford the following Friday.
There’s also still a slight doubt over Jamahl Lolesi after having eight stitches in a head wound against Castleford. Again, we’ll wait until the end of the week.
We are more confident about Brett Hodgson, though. He’s recovering well from his knee injury and is far more likely to be back this weekend.
