With Eorl Crabtree on England duty this weekend, does this mean a possible debut for fellow prop Danny Sculthorpe?
It’s possible, although we’ve also got Darrell Griffin available for Leeds. He missed out on selection against Hull KR, but played well for the Reserves the following day.
But Scully is doing well and has fitted in well with the rest of the boys.
To be honest, he’s spent a fair bit of time working on his fitness with ‘Bumper’ (head conditioner Mark Andrews) and the rehab staff.
But he is now doing sessions with the team and I know how much he’s looking forward to getting a game with us, whether that’s this week or the next.
As well as missing Eorl, you’ve obviously also got Scott Moore playing for England in France. Do you think you’ll miss them more than Leeds will miss their England players, Jamie Peacock, Danny McGuire and Ryan Hall?
There’s no doubt we’ll miss our players, but it’s obviously hard for me to say how much Leeds will miss theirs.
I have heard that Leeds are actually thinking about flying their players back from Paris so they can play against us, and that (England scrum half) Rob Burrow could be available again after injury.
But whether this is the case or not, we know the Leeds side that takes to the field will be strong, because they’ve got such a quality squad.
At the same time, however, I’m also happy with the quality of our squad, and even though Sunday will challenge the strength of it, I know we can rise to that challenge.
Unfortunately, you were unable to rise to the challenge when you entertained Leeds at the Galpharm two months ago. So do you feel you have a point to prove to them this weekend?
That day, Leeds played some very good footy and blew us away at the start.
I think they were 14-0 up after about 12 minutes, and against the reigning Super League champions that was always going to make our task so much harder.
But I believe we’ve come a long way since then as a team, and I hope that’s reflected in our performance this weekend.
