Brett Hodgson column: We will move on together

WELL, the speculation is over.
After a couple of weeks of uncertainty over Nathan Brown’s future, we know he’ll be leaving at the end of the season.
It’s a decision that’s disappointed us all, but we fully understand the reasons behind it and, as a group of players, we support him 100%.
But even though Browny’s decision is not the one we really wanted to hear, at least everyone now knows where they stand and we can move on together.
There will be no more distractions over whether Browny is going or staying and, hopefully, we can start to focus 100% on the task at hand – getting back on track after a couple of disappointing weeks.
I think it probably goes without saying we’re still hurting after the events of last Saturday and that horrible Cup defeat to Warrington.
My initial thought was that the video review session may go on a bit longer than usual, given that there was so much we needed to put right.
Browny, however, decided not to go down that track. Instead, he literally threw the video in the bin and told us not to dwell on what went wrong and just move on.
He made it clear he knows that what we all saw last weekend wasn’t any sort of reflection on our ability. It was simply one of those days, and they can sometimes happen, even to the best teams.
I can certainly understand where he’s coming from, and so can the rest of the boys.
Having, unfortunately, been out there on the pitch last Saturday, it was one of those classic occasions where the harder we tried, the deeper we dug ourselves into a hole. It happened to us against Warrington and, rest assured, it will happen to other sides as long as rugby league is continued to be played.
It’s just one of those freak situations that occurs from time to time, and you just hope it doesn’t happen to you. But, in my experience, it’s very rare indeed to find a player who hasn’t had to suffer something like this at least once in their career.
