Brett Hodgson column : We let ourselves down against Castleford Tigers

Brett Hodgson

SO, what can we say about last Sunday’s game at Castleford Tigers!

We know it was one where we let ourselves down in quite a few areas, our ball security and control was very ordinary and it was a big disappointment to everyone.

In a strong breeze in the first half you have to build your sets and get into the game, and we failed to do that.

The fatigue we accumulated going into the wind in the second half contributed to our poor performance. It was very disappointing the way we finished the game.

Unfortunately, we also lost Keith Mason in that game, and he looks like he’ll be missing for a couple of weeks.

Every side goes through their turn of injuries and there’s no doubt we are going through a spell where we are missing a few key personnel.

But it’s at times like this that it’s up to the other players, especially the senior ones, to step up – and we failed to do that at Cas.

The time is now for us to start building form in the next few rounds and we have to gather some momentum into the play-offs, if we are good enough to make them.

At the minute we are doing it a little bit tough but there’s no doubt we have to step up a notch. If you make the play-offs you don’t want to go into them on the back of patchy form, you need to be playing well and confidently.

And this week we have the chance to make amends against the Crusaders.

We know they are a good side and are playing some good stuff, Brian Noble has really got them prepared well and they have recruited some quality players to the club.
