Dazzling Giants are destroyers!

Giants 44 - 16 Oldham. BUOYANT Huddersfield Giants produced a dazzling attacking display to destroy in-form Oldham and move a step closer to Buddies National League Cup glory.

In the NFP clash at the McAlpine a month ago, the Lancastrians gave the Giants a major fright before going down 28-18.

But the unbeaten NFP leaders ensured there was no repeat as they crossed for eight tries to leave Oldham's hopes of progressing to the knock-out stages of the competition hanging by a thread.

Yet even though Huddersfield conjured up three magical first-half scores, it was only in the second half that they began to hit true form.

With inspirational David Atkins wreaking havoc with his runs out wide and Hefin O'Hare terrorising the defence with his pace and strength, Oldham were swept away.

The Roughyeds may have destroyed Dewsbury 47-12 on Tuesday night, but nothing could prepare them for such an onslaught.

Former Giants skipper Steve Molloy fought heroically from start to finish in a vain attempt to stem the flow.

But even though he helped set up another ex-Giant, David Foster, for a 75th-minute consolation try there was nothing he could do to halt the progress of his former teammates.

One man who did help thwart the Giants early on, however, was referee Stuart Cummings, who takes up his new position as RFL referees controller on May 1.

In almost every game this season, the Giants have come up against opponents who have adopted spoiling tactics from the first whistle in a bid to knock Huddersfield out of their stride.
