Dazzling Giants are destroyers!

Lying on has become the trademark approach.

It was once again employed by Oldham yesterday, but on this occasion the Giants took matters into their own hands.

On two occasions in the opening period, the home side attempted to play quick play-the-balls while defenders were lying all over them. The tacklers should, of course, have immediately rolled away.

Both times, the play-the-balls were scrappy and Mr Cummings penalised the Giants!

And despite the home side explaining their predicament, the refereree's response was to march them back 10 yards for dissent to give Gareth Barber two easy penalty goals.

After the break, however, the official had a complete change of heart.

Within three minutes of the restart, Oldham were penalised for holding down and 13 minutes later Paul Norton was despatched to the sin-bin for the same offence!

The effects of his actions couldn't have been more dramatic.

With Oldham's spoiling ploy in tatters, the Giants were able to play their natural game, and the outcome was inevitable.

But at least the referee's first-half stance helped to produce a competitive encounter.
