After the opening quarter the teams were locked at 4-4, with Stanley Gene's superb blindside run to the line after four minutes being cancelled out by two Barber penalties.
The home also lost the services of Ben Cooper with a knee injury during this edgy start, and a tough and tense afternoon looked on the cards.
But there was welcome relief in the 21st minute when the ball was kept alive superbly on the sixth tackle for Matthew Whittaker, Paul March and O'Hare to combine for Mark Moxon to plunge over by the posts and Rob Roberts landed the first of his six goals.
Things got even better eight minutes later when the Giants made the most of a loose ball and the impressive Roberts cut inside superbly to create the opening for Adam Hayes to extend the advantage to 16-4.
It was then that referee Cummings hit the Giants hard with his rulings and by the break the deficit had been cut to eight points.
Not that the home fans needed to worry.
Within three minutes of the restart, Gene's failed attempt at a quick play-the-ball resulted in Oldham being penalised for holding down and Roberts added the extras.
Barber's fifth goal in the 49th minute kept Oldham in the frame.
But from then on it was virtually one-way traffic.
In the 52nd minute O'Hare was over after he and Andy Rice had set up the initial position from deep, and three minutes later Atkins and March both worked some magic to release Gene to score his second.
