Points plus as Giants run riot

But while the Lynx were looking decidedly ragged at that stage, they had begun the match reasonably enough, taking a surprise lead through scrum half Martin Gambles, who scooped up Darren Turner's wayward pass and went through under the posts after good link play by hooker Martin Roden and centre Liam Jones, who tagged on the extras.

When Jones came close to another try with six minutes on the clock, there were one or two disbelieving faces.

Ben Cooper

But after Cooper opened Huddersfield's account with a dart to the line to finish off full-back Paul Reilly's powerful 10th-minute break and McNamara goaled from the touchline to level, normal service was resumed.

Cooper was held just short after he ran on to Gene's high kick in the 16th minute, but two minutes later, Chorley were unable to close down Langley, who burst onto the Papuan scrum half's pass and charged through down the left.

The Giants' third try arrived after 21 minutes, Reilly's scintillating 70-yard run bringing a penalty and the resultant pressure from which Turner took advantage after Rob Roberts had been held close to the line.

Reilly was again at the heart of his side's fourth try.

It came on 27 minutes, with the full-back freeing Cooper, who broke towards the posts, then generously passed to enable McNamara to break his season's touchdown drought.

McNamara's only missed kick came in first-half stoppage time, when Gene wriggled in from close range after Walker's tackle on full-back Paul Wilcock forced Chorley to kick out from under their own posts.

Winger Matthew Whittaker's knock-on and Huddersfield's lack of concentration at the following scrum allowed stand-off Graeme Close to scamper in, with Jones' goal making it 28-12 five minutes after the restart.

But any hopes Chorley had of making further inroads into the home lead were wrecked as Huddersfield chalked up 30 points in 10 minutes.
