Giants back in business!

Giants 50 - 16 Hull KR. HUDDERSFIELD Giants are back in business!

Mick Slicker

After the close call at Oldham and the lacklustre victory at Keighley, normal service was resumed as the unbeaten Northern Ford Premiership leaders put Hull KR to the sword to rattle up another half-century of points.

If any of the Giants' play-off rivals were hoping the bubble had burst they will have been bitterly disappointed at this result.

Huddersfield returned to their best form to destroy highly-rated opponents and shift up a gear in preparation for the vital end-of-season run-in which will determine their fate.

Yet the most pleasing aspect for those in the McAlpine camp is that there is still so much to come from coach Tony Smith's side.

This latest victory was achieved without main strike player Stanley Gene and with a major last-minute disruption.

On the morning of the game Darren Turner, who was due to start at hooker, suffered a recurrence of his back strain and was forced to pull out.

That meant a quick-fire reshuffle and many of the Giants' final match preparations proved to be in vain.

Fortunately it failed to affect the side's cohesion and they were able to produce some rugby league that was again out of the top drawer.

But, unfortunately, there was again a pitifully low crowd - just 2,062 to be exact - to watch the excitement unfold.
