Home Giants Huddersfield Giants Match Reports

Heroes all!

This was Leigh's one last chance to upset the odds and they weren't bothered how they did it!

An early Steve McNamara penalty should have settled the Giants' nerves.

But instead it put extra fire in the Centurions' bellies, and it wasn't long before they took full control.

In the seventh minute, Hefin O'Hare was forced to put the ball dead and two minutes later Leigh had taken the lead.

Simon Baldwin's charge to the line caused chaos in the Giants' defence and his slipped pass to the supporting Dale Cardoza gave the former Huddersfield centre the easiest of tries.

Neil Turley banged over the conversion and Leigh were 6-2 ahead.

Fortunately for the Giants, Baldwin undid all his hard work minutes later by laying the foundations for his opponents' opening try.

His attempted pass out of a tackle on halfway was neatly intercepted by the alert Paul March, whose instant pass was picked up miraculously off his toes by O'Hare.

The Welsh winger was immediately into his stride and he rounded the chasing Adam Bristow to race over the line.

McNamara was unable to convert, but landed a 15th-minute penalty to take his side 8-6 ahead.
