Home Giants Huddersfield Giants Match Reports

Heroes all!

Within seven minutes of the restart, man-of-the-match Chris Thorman had scorched through the Leigh defence from a scrum on the 22 to dive over between the posts and McNamara added the extras.

But while Thorman was celebrating, two big brawls erupted in back play, resulting in Rob Roberts and Dave Whittle being despatched to the sin-bin to cool off.

Fortunately, this failed to knock the Giants out of their stride and four minutes later, Mick Slicker's long pass sent Graeme Hallas - arguably his side's most solid performer of the night - charging away and he in turn fed St Hilaire to finish off.

Six minutes later they were over again as Thorman's superb chip into open space was collected by Gene who skipped round the defence and celebrated by doing a forward roll as he crossed the line.

McNamara added two great conversions and at 32-10 after 57 minutes, the Grand Final and that Super League place were in the bag.

John Hamilton took advantage of a blatant obstruction on Dave Atkins in the 69th minute to race over for a consolation score.

But in the final seven minutes, the Giants rammed home their superiority.

Only an ankle tap by Willie Swann on St Hilaire denied the winger his hat trick, but Bristow failure to allow him to play a quick play-the-ball cost him a spell in the sin-bin.

And with two minutes remaining, O'Hare collected Hallas' pass just inside his own half, burst out of Leon Felton's tackle and outpaced Cardoza to grab his second.
