Faithful fans have nothing to cheer

Giants 22 - 30 Broncos. Sad Giants' worst display

THANK goodness the Giants produced what will hopefully be their worst display of the season for a contest which will attract the lowest McAlpine crowd of the campaign!

Had the casual sports supporter elected to spend an early Sunday evening taking a closer look at the `ever-improving' Giants and the thrills and spills Super League normally has to offer, they would have returned home bitterly disappointed.

Instead, they would have witnessed Huddersfield producing a scrappy first-half performance against a side that is masterful at grinding the opposition down.

London Broncos' style of play may not be pretty - in fact, their spoiling approach would have been a massive turn-off for the neutral - but it is thoroughly effective.

And, just for good measure, throw in the erratic refereeing of Russell Smith, and a completely frustrating diet of Super League had been served up.

So it was a good job that the match was watched by just a hard-core of 3,047 fans.

Trying to `sell' this game to an outside observer would have proved extremely difficult.

But it must also have been heavy going for the faithful to have to endure this latest offering from all concerned - ie the teams and referee.

There was a brief spell early in the second half when the game came to life as the Giants scored two tries in quick succession to cut the deficit from 24-6 after 41 minutes to 24-16 in the 53rd.

Yet that, apart, it generally made for sorry watching.
