Costin's try seals a super Roarty debut

Giants 28 - 26 Halifax. Errors and defence still a worry.

Ben Roarty

HUDDERSFIELD Giants are finally back on the Super League winning track.

But they are clearly not back on track in terms of their level of performance.

Despite securing a narrow two-point triumph over bottom club Halifax to end a run of six successive defeats, this was hardly a vintage Giants' display.

The negatives that have contributed to Huddersfield's downfall during the six-match losing run were on full show yet again as they made exceptionally hard work of finishing off their struggling neighbours.

Possession was squandered far too frequently, while the defence was again another source of worry.

But maybe this is taking too much away from the way Halifax performed.

Fax are a desperate side who are scrapping for their Super League lives.

They now find themselves eight points adrift at the foot of the table and had clearly earmarked this match as a must-win contest. That was reflected in the way they played.

Yet even though they gave it their very best shot, they were still unable to snatch the points from their hosts - something that must bode well for the Giants' Super League future.
