To have not played to anywhere near full potential but still come up with the win suggests that better times must surely be just around the corner.
And there were more than enough signs to back this up.
Take the debut of Ben Roarty, for example.
The former Penrith second-rower may be new to this team - he's hardly trained with the players and has yet to know all their names - but he already looks a very useful acquisition.
In his two spells on the field he contributed significantly to the cause and by next Sunday's home clash against Wakefield should have an even bigger role to play.
It was also good to see Graham Holroyd have a much longer run at scrum half, with his tryscoring pass to Darren Turner on the stroke of half-time proving to be one of the most telling contributions to the contest.
But Turner's performance, too, was like a breath of fresh air.
By his own admission, his form in recent times has been below-par, and he needed to get his game back into gear.
That was achieved in some style, with the amount of ground he gained from numerous darts from dummy half making him a 100% nuisance to the Halifax defence.
Yet the opening exchanges were all about Roarty.
