Giants 26 - 4 Wildcats. Reilly dismissal clouds exciting display
And having then absorbed the only spell of genuine Wakefield pressure in a one-sided opening 40 minutes, the Giants began to cut loose.
Three tries in the space of 10 minutes effectively ended the contest and enabled Huddersfield to move above Wakefield and up to 10th in the League ladder.
All three were well-worked efforts, with Gene proving the key player.
Gene was only cleared to play on Saturday after picking up a rib injury in the build-up to last week's game against Halifax.
But he made the most of his late call by cutting the Wildcats to ribbons.
He set the ball rolling in the 27th minute by bursting clear just inside his own half and then drawing full-back Martyn Holland to send Reilly sprinting away to score under the posts for Steve McNamara to add the extras.
Straight from the restart, Gene again cut loose to take play back into Trinity territory and Turner was held up over the line.
But immediately from the scrum, workaholic second-rower Jarrod O'Doherty fed Costin to crash over under the posts for a second converted score.
All of a sudden the lead was 16-0 after 30 minutes.
That lead was then extended to 22 points as Gene's reverse kick was collected by Gannon who was hauled down on the line but managed to keep the ball alive and was finally able to throw the ball out American football style for Marcus St Hilaire to slide in at the corner.
