Rest time ahead of vital week

GIANTS chief Jon Sharp has given his players the weekend off before they embark on “the most important week of the year”.

After three excellent pre-season triumphs at Hull, Castleford and Batley, Huddersfield have now turned their attention to the Super League opener against Leeds at the Galpharm on Sunday week.

And Sharp believes giving his players a rare two-day break will enable them to recharge their batteries and put them in the best possible shape for February 10.

“I’ve been delighted with the way everyone has worked throughout a tough pre-season,” said Sharp.

“And I’m pleased with what I’ve seen from the players in our pre-season games.

“But this weekend it’s a case of reining them back in before they prepare for a vital final week’s work.

“Our opening game against Leeds is now just over a week away, so it’s crucial the training next week is the best it has been.

“It’s vitally important.”

Although the Leeds’ game is the first for the Giants, the Rhinos’ campaign gets under way tomorrow, when they host Hull KR.

It is taking place early so Leeds can play Melbourne Storm in the World Club Challenge on February 29.
