Giants on defensive

GIANTS coach Jon Sharp has put his players on defensive duty ahead of Sunday’s home Super League clash against Castleford Tigers (3.00).

The Galpharm chief has admitted his disappointment at the way his side defended during the 38-12 defeat at Bradford Bulls on Saturday.

It came on the back of the 30-10 opening-day defeat to champions Leeds Rhinos.

And Sharp is determined to avoid a repeat of such scorelines when the promoted Tigers come to town.

“We pride ourselves on our defence, and that’s the area where we let ourselves down against Bradford,” said Sharp, pictured above.

“I thought we defended OK against Leeds, but our kicking game and ball control was nowhere near good enough.

“Against Bradford, we kicked well and our completion rate was much better, but our defence was clearly not up to the standard we expect.

“We do focus on defence a lot, but this week the focus has been to add spice to the finer points of defending well.

“The Bradford game showed we need to, and we need to put it right straight away.”
