Scoring spree is a bonus

LUKE ROBINSON is happy to sacrifice his place at the top of the Giants’ tryscoring charts – if it can guarantee more Super League success.

The 23-year-old scrum half scored his fifth try in just four top-flight starts for his new club in the 28-8 triumph over Hull at the weekend.

It puts the former Salford man joint second in the Super League tryscoring list, just one behind Warrington’s Chris Hicks.

But Robinson admits the tries are a bonus, and that helping the Giants continue their climb up the Super League ladder is all that matters.

“I certainly didn’t come to the Giants to score tries,” said Robinson.

“I came here to create the opportunities for those around me to score them.

“But, with the way things have gone so far, it’s been the other way around!

“It’s me who’s been on the end of some great work by my teammates, and I think that’s absolutely fantastic.

“At Salford, it was often solely down to me to try and create tryscoring chances. That meant added pressure.

“I was happy to go along with that, but it’s far better to come to a team that doesn’t have to rely on just a few players to make things happen.

“At the Giants, there’s not just me, there’s also Kev Brown, Chris Thorman, George Gatis and Ryan Hudson making the team tick down the middle.

“As a result, I’m loving it here, and picking up the tries is definitely an added bonus.

“But, at the end of the day, I’d sacrifice them all if it means we keep on winning.”
