Let me have a Super crack at Wigan – Jones

STUART JONES is hoping to be handed the chance to take a month of frustration out on former club Wigan in Sunday’s Super League clash at the Galpharm.

The Giants back-rower has not featured in his side’s last three top-flight fixtures following a pre-season disrupted by a troublesome hamstring injury.

The 26-year-old has now proved he is back to full fitness with two rock-solid performances for the Reserves.

And he is hoping that will be enough to earn him a first-team return this weekend, particularly on the back of Huddersfield’s bitterly disappointing Super League showing at Harlequins.

“This has been a very frustrating time for me,” said Jones, pictured right.

“My off-season was disrupted by a hamstring injury, and I’ve paid the price at the start of Super League.

“But I certainly wouldn’t mind a crack against Wigan on Sunday!

“Jon (Sharp) knows how desperate I am to get back into the first team and I’m keeping my fingers crossed it comes this weekend.

“I think playing in the Reserves has been a great help to me in getting back up to full fitness.

“But now I’ve reached that stage I’m desperate to play Super League again.

“At a time like this, it could have been so easy to have let my head drop and not been prepared to put in the work.

“But I know my chance will come again at some stage, and that it’ll come quicker if I continue to work as hard as I possibly can. I just hope that chance is on Sunday.”
