Rest has done me the power of good – Gatis

GEORGE GATIS believes sitting out the Good Friday game at Warrington could prove the key to a successful Giants Super League career.

The Australian hooker returned to star in the stunning win over St Helens and the thrilling draw at Hull KR on Sunday.

And the 30-year-old former New Zealand Warrior believes the Easter rest has contributed to his successful return.

"I think Jon (Sharp) was really smart with the way he rotated his squad over Easter," said Gatis, right, who scored his first try of the season in the 24-24 weekend draw and is set to start again at home to Catalans Dragons on Friday (7.30).

"It was obviously disappointing to be one of the players who was affected.

"But Tom Hemingway deserved his chance to play after the way he had been playing in the Reserves.

"And Jon made it clear exactly why the move had been made.

"He had a quiet word and told me he wanted more from me, and that it was something for me to think about over my weekend off.

"I fully accepted that, because I know there’s still a lot of improvement for me to make, and I would like to think there have been some improvements in my game since I came back into the side.

"I’ve thoroughly enjoyed starting the last two games and I think Ryan (Hudson) has enjoyed coming off the bench, too. He’s definitely playing well."
