A week to recharge could be vital: Thorman

GIANTS captain Chris Thorman is hoping the luxury of an eight-day rest will spark a return to winning Super League ways at the Galpharm.

After beating St Helens 28-26 on Easter Monday and drawing 24-24 at Hull KR the following Sunday, a flat Giants side suffered a 20-16 home defeat to Catalans Dragons five days later (on Friday night).

But with Huddersfield now having a far longer break between top-flight fixtures, Thorman is keeping his fingers crossed it can make all the difference when Wakefield Trinity Wildcats visit the Galpharm in front of the Sky TV cameras on Saturday (6.00).

“At this stage of the season, having an eight-day break can be massive,” said Thorman, pictured right.

“I don’t think there’s a single player out there right now who isn’t suffering with bumps and bruises.

“The Easter period is incredibly tough and it can affect you for the next few games after that.

“So to have this break now couldn’t have come at a better time.

“Hopefully, by weekend, we’ll be a lot fresher and be able to get back to our best and put on a far better performance.”

Wakefield’s 16-2 home win against Warrington yesterday pushed the Giants down one place to third from bottom in 10th.
