We’ll be as strong as possible

GIANTS chief Jon Sharp will leave nothing to chance in his side’s bid to reach the fifth round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup.

Despite two stuttering Super League displays, Huddersfield go into Sunday’s derby tie at National League I club Halifax (3.00) as red-hot favourites to triumph.

Sharp is keen for his side to embark on a good cup run, with the dream of reaching a second final in three seasons.

But the Galpharm chief is also looking for a positive display to help erase the memory of the disappointing home league defeats by Catalans and Wakefield.

“We’re excited about this weekend’s challenge,” said Sharp.

“The competition has been good for us in the last few years, with a final and then a semi-final appearance.

“And we would love to go all the way again this year.

“But we know we can’t afford to look beyond this weekend.

“We go into the game against Halifax with almost everyone tipping us to win.

“However, we can’t afford to take too much notice.

“We know how much Halifax are looking forward to taking us on, and because it’s a local derby there’s even more added spice.

“For that reason we’ll be fielding our strongest available side. We know we can’t afford to leave anything to chance.

“And after losing our last two home games, we’re also keen to get back to winning ways to give us a lift ahead of a return to Super League action.”
