Giants lose again but Sharp says: Things will get better

DEFIANT coach Jon Sharp insists his struggling Giants side are about to turn the corner.

Huddersfield slumped to their eighth defeat in 12 Super League outings this season when they went down 28-20 to Hull FC at the KC Stadium yesterday.

It means they head to Cardiff to take on Warrington at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday second from bottom of the table.

But Sharp has complete confidence that his players are on the verge of turning things around after a run of four league games without a win.

“Things don’t seem to be going for us at the moment,” said Sharp, who revealed he wasn’t prepared to risk captain Chris Thorman at the KC because of a dead leg.

“We’re working really hard for each other and it would be hard to pick out anyone who didn’t have a good game.

“Overall we’re very close and we just need to kick the ball a little better.

“The key for us is improving our kicking game and being a little bit more ruthless in taking our opportunities.

“I also thought we didn’t start as well as we could have done yesterday.

“The first half an hour gave us a mountain to climb, but I certainly saw no shortage of heart or endeavour from the players.

“At half-time I thought I saw some chinks in Hull’s armoury and I thought we could exploit them in the second half.

“If we’d have got the score when Rod Jensen’s try was ruled out for a forward pass then we would have given ourselves an opportunity to get into the game.

“As I said, the effort, endeavour and skill of the team was there and I was proud of some of the things we did.”

Returning Aussie scrum half Adam Dykes was a key man for Hull.

The 31-year-old had a hand in four of his side’s five tries.
