Thorman: Giants will fight back

CHRIS THORMAN is confident the Giants will gain strength from adversity and have what it takes to beat in-form Harlequins at the Galpharm on Sunday (3.00).

The Huddersfield captain is one of several key players set to miss this weekend’s Super League showdown after suffering an ankle injury in training on Tuesday.

Goalkicking half-back Thorman could be out for three weeks after scans revealed he has suffered ligament damage.

He will be joined on the sidelines by half-backs Kevin Brown and Luke Robinson, who picked up bans in the wake of last Sunday’s 28-26 defeat at Wakefield, while prop Paul Jackson is out for a month with a fractured eye socket.

Hooker Ryan Hudson could also be missing with a bruised collar bone.

But even though the absences mean the Giants will be lacking a lot of creative spark against a Quins side who start as favourites after their superb 28-24 home triumph over runaway leaders Leeds Rhinos last Saturday, Thorman is sure his teammates will rise to the occasion.

“Whatever team takes to the field on Sunday, I know they will be fully committed and will have the right attitude for the full 80 minutes,” said Thorman.

“I think everyone who saw us play at Wakefield on Sunday wouldn’t have been able to fault the enthusiasm and desire.

“We all believe we did enough to win last weekend’s game, but the breaks just didn’t go our way.

“It’s something that’s added to the pressure on us (the Giants are now second bottom of Super League) but I know we are strong enough to overcome this.”
