We will nevergive up battle says Anderson

DELIGHTED Giants caretaker coach Paul Anderson watched his side return to winning ways yesterday and declared: “Don’t write us off!”

Anderson and fellow coach Keiron Purtill celebrated their first victory in charge with a thoroughly-deserved 26-16 scoreline over in-form Harlequins at the Galpharm.

They came close in their first game at the helm following Jon Sharp’s sacking a month ago when the Giants were narrowly beaten 28-26 at Wakefield.

But there were no such problems second time around, despite being without a number of first-choice regulars.

Half-backs Chris Thorman, Kevin Brown and Luke Robinson, hooker Ryan Hudson and props Paul Jackson and Darrell Griffin (a late withdrawal through illness) were all absent.

Yet with the likes of man-of-the-match scrum half Tom Hemingway rising to the challenge, the Giants secured a fifth win of the season to move back above Hull in the Super League table and into 10th.

And at this stage, Anderson has not ruled out a late Huddersfield assault on the top six play-offs.

“You should never say never in this game,” said Anderson.

“These fellas have got the bit between their teeth and we have got to go to St Helens next weekend and try and get a result.

“It will obviously be very tough, because everyone knows Saints are a great team.

“But my message, particularly after what we saw yesterday, is don’t write us off. We’re not giving anything up at this stage.

“I really was delighted with this performance, because it shows we still have so much to offer.

“People thought we could potentially roll over and die, but that’s not what this place is about.

“We’ll never give up.”
