WE came here expecting to play a full-strength St Helens side and that’s virtually what we got.

We always thought there would be a strong possibility they would field most of their players who had played for England in France on Friday night.

In the end, they fielded six of their seven and they all played well, as you would expect.

They do it back in Australia, so we always thought the Saints boys could do it.

And I’m afraid we caught them on a good day.

We just gave them too much possession to be a genuine threat.

But I was still pleased with certain aspects of the game, and it was great to see David Hodgson back in action after major knee surgery.

We had been tempted to give him a run in the Reserves, but we decided to fast-track him back into Super League in a bid to give him a chance to stake a claim for England in the World Cup.
