Giants' Slicker says it's good to be back

MICK SLICKER is back at the Giants!

The former Huddersfield prop has this week been unveiled as the club’s new Head Scholarship Coach and is the latest ex-Giants player to have returned to the Galpharm.

The 30-year-old follows in the footsteps of Paul Cook, Darren Fleary and Anthony Farrell, who were all added to the Super League club’s coaching roster at the end of last year.

Oldham-based Slicker already has some top-line experience of filling a Head Scholarship role, having held the position with Bradford Bulls for 18 months two years ago.

He was forced to end that association because of the increasing demands on his time at his construction company.

But he now feels ready to step back into the professional environment, and is absolutely delighted it’s at the Giants.

“I always wanted to come back to Huddersfield at some stage,” said Slicker, who moved to the club from Keighley in 2001 but was forced to retire as a player with a serious knee injury five years later.

“The best years of my playing career were obviously at the Giants, so the club is always going to be very close to my heart.
