Brown calls for improvements at Giants

SEEING an all-round improvement.

That’s the aim of the game for head coach Nathan Brown as his new-look Giants welcome Wigan Warriors to the Galpharm Stadium tomorrow (3.00) for a crucial pre-season test.

The former St George Dragons chief was encouraged by a lot of what he saw in last Sunday’s 28-20 trial triumph at Castleford Tigers.

But he admitted the performance was far from perfect, and he is keen to see his players show a marked improvement against a virtually full-strength Wigan squad.

“There were plenty of positives, but also a number of negatives, to come out of the performance at Castleford,” said Brown.

“So, obviously, one of the main aims tomorrow is to show an improvement in the areas we had identified as the negatives.

“And we know that with the quality of the squad Wigan will be fielding, we’ll be given a real test, which is exactly what we need.

“Hopefully, by the end of this game, I’ll know even more about the players and what they can do.

“Even though I’ve been here a couple of months now, I’m still learning about this group of players, and I’m very keen to see exactly what they can do in a test as tough as tomorrow’s.

“You always know when you face a side like Wigan they’ll be strong, and that’s certainly the case when they come to us.

“With both of us fielding strong squads it should be good.”

Brown will give home debuts to Brett Hodgson, Simon Finnigan, Michael Korkidas, Scott Moore, Joe Walsh and Shaun Lunt, who are part of a 20-man Giants squad.
