Brett Hodgson column: Let’s build on this Giants win

IT’S great to be heading into Sunday’s game on the back of another win.

After those disappointing defeats against Leeds and Warrington, we were desperate to return to winning ways against Celtic Crusaders at Edinburgh.

And, fortunately, everything went according to plan – in our bid to collect the two League points that is.

I’m afraid to say that when it came to the performance, it wasn’t the greatest in the world, and that clearly took the gloss off the victory.

There were patches in the first half when we played well, but our second-half display was pretty ordinary and that was a bit of a concern.

After leading 22-0 at the break, the half-time talk was all about completing well and being ruthless.

But that was the last thing we were, and that was bitterly disappointing.

It was clear our skill level and concentration were not where we wanted them to be, and the sooner we sort that out, the better.

And, hopefully, we see an improvement in those areas against Rochdale..

To be honest, we don’t know that much about them, but we have watched them on video this week and there’s more than enough to suggest that they won’t make it that easy for us.

We’ve no doubt they’ll be going out there and giving it their best shot, and we’ve got to be ready for that.

But we know that if we do start getting back to our best, we’ll put ourselves in an excellent position to be in the draw for the quarter-finals, and I’d be absolutely delighted about that.

As I’ve said before, I’m new to this competition but I’m a big fan of it.
