Josh Griffin on building a career with the Giants
JOSH GRIFFIN has already set his sights on making a Super League debut after getting a first senior Giants game under his belt.
The 19-year-old made his first-team bow in Sunday’s 38-12 Challenge Cup triumph over Rochdale Hornets at the Galpharm.
It was a special moment for centre Griffin, who played alongside older brother Darrell at senior level for the first time, and to mark the occasion the Griffin family had taken a hospitality box for the day.
But Griffin has no doubt that it will be an even prouder moment when he eventually makes his Super League debut.
“It was fantastic to finally get out there in the first team for the first time,” he reflected.
“Obviously, having Darrell in the side helped me, although the gloss was taken off that by the fact he got injured and I had little chance to work off his go-forward.
“But it was still great to get my chance in the senior side, and I’m now working towards making my Super League debut.
“I think last Sunday was a pretty good start, although I did do a couple of sloppy things.
“But I do feel I’m improving week by week and I’m learning off Fatz (fellow centre Paul Whatuira), so it’s a case of continuing to work hard and wait for my chance.”
