Giants' Larne Patrick: We threw it away

RISING Giants star Larne Patrick has admitted the delight of retaining his place in the senior side has been replaced by a feeling of bitter disappointment at being part of yesterday’s shock home defeat to Salford.

The 20-year-old forward was one of the few ‘fringe’ Huddersfield players to hold onto his spot after last week’s Challenge Cup win over Rochdale Hornets.

It was the first time since arriving at the Galpharm at the start of the season that the former England Academy player has played in back-to-back first-team games.

But after suffering the 24-4 defeat to the second-bottom City Reds, Patrick was far from upbeat.

“I was really happy when I was told I’d been selected for the first team again,” said Patrick.

“Earlier in the season, I’d twice played in the senior side and was back in the Reserves the following week, so it was great to be told I’d kept my spot.

“But that’s about as positive as it got!

“The performance yesterday was obviously very disappointing, and you can imagine how down we all were at the end of the game.

“And I was no exception.
