Stephenson confirmed that both players are not at training this week and would not be considered for Sunday’s home game against Huddersfield.

Sculthorpe’s agent Ron Hill said: “Until I see the letter and discuss the matter with Danny, there is nothing I can say.”

The 29-year-old Sculthorpe, younger brother of former Great Britain captain Paul and who has previously played for Leeds, Warrington,

Rochdale and Wigan, is out of contract with the Wildcats at the end of the season.

He has been linked with loan moves to Widnes and Barrow amid reports that Wakefield need to offload some of their biggest wage earners because of financial difficulties.

Brough, 26, is under contract until the end of 2010 but was recently the subject of interest from Huddersfield.
