Castleford Tigers coach to face big RFL rap?

CASTLEFORD coach Terry Matterson could find himself in hot water as he begins the Tigers’ countdown to Sunday’s Carnegie Challenge Cup quarter-final clash against the Giants at the Galpharm.

The Australia hit out at the performance of referee Gareth Hewer after his side suffered a hard-fought 16-6 defeat at Hull KR on Friday night.

Two tries from outstanding Rovers full-back Shaun Briscoe proved the difference but the game might have been closer had the Tigers not been denied a penalty try.

The Tigers were also on the wrong end of a 13-7 penalty count and Matterson felt his side had been hard done by, and is now expected to come under investigation from Rugby League disciplinary chiefs.

Referring to an occasion earlier in the season when Rovers coach Justin Morgan was fined for criticising an official after they had been beaten by the Giants, Matterson said: “Justin had a few words to say a few weeks ago and it seems like it has worked.

“At 10-6, we were on the front foot and back in the game. There was a high kick and they got in our way, no penalty.
