Huddersfield Giants Report: Wakefield 6 Giants 54

MAGNIFICENT Huddersfield Giants regained their top early-season form to destroy Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in a dazzling 10-try display.

Coach Nathan Brown’s men proved seven days can be such a long time in rugby league by instantly erasing the bitter memory of the shock home defeat to Salford the week before.

And there were more than enough signs to suggest the Giants’ mini slump is now at an end as all 17 on show produced quality performances that the Wildcats found impossible to match.

Even without inspirational skipper Brett Hodgson for a second week, the Giants were in a totally different class, with replacement Leroy Cudjoe stepping up superbly to lead the way.

But all across the park, the visitors were dominant.

The pack won every battle up front and successfully laid the foundation for the backs to run riot, led by winger David Hodgson, who grabbed his second hat trick of the season.

In contrast, without the influential Danny Brough, who was suspended along with Danny Sculthorpe for a breach of club discipline, Wakefield lacked direction in attack and were woeful in defence as Huddersfield cut loose to run in seven second-half tries.

There was a sign of what was to come when the visitors went ahead with a second-minute try from second-rower Danny Kirmond after Hodgson had palmed back Luke Robinson’s high kick to the corner.
